The Guest Speaker Series is the most well known pr The Guest Speaker Series is the most well known program in Little U. It is both a knowledge sharing and career guidance platform that gently allows children and their families to understand different paths available.
We link these paths to individuals whose stories reflect the breadth and depth of their decisions, and the sacrifices involved.
Come with a desire to learn from the best.
In one hour, they will share their life story around the questions below, and then take questions from you.

What is your job?
Why do you do what you do?
How did you get started?
How would you advise others?
What do they need to do to get there?

First monday of the month over Zoom except for March's session.
1030am - 1130am

Little U (Part 1/5) == I told my kids, "After you Little U (Part 1/5)

==
I told my kids, "After you all grow up, I'm going to be spending my days just looking after children especially the ones whom nobody wants, the displaced, the lost."

I think each person is wired to live out a dream. Sometimes it may not be their own dream but someone else's. I mean this in the kindest way, not a socially engineered I-tell-you-what-I-want-you-to-be sort of thing. I belong to the "someone else's dream" category.

I don't have something huge I want to do. Growing up, I prefer listening to my friends when we are hanging out, or reading. But I have learnt that my energies are directed when it comes to helping others succeed. I told my community, "I don't have dreams. I just help yours come to pass." That's my work, and it has given me much joy just to build something for others to interact safely and productively in. Now that my homeschooling leadership season is over, I can't think of a better demography to invest in than children. With children, it means their families too.

One of the projects that we built within our homeschooling community was a learning arm called Little U, where we focused on teaching our interests to one another, and to learn from top practitioners at our Guest Speaker Series. The vision was to create a holistic program where we had something from preschool to adulthood. The learning would be situated within familial structures rather than institutionalised ones.

It's been five years since we started Little U. Past and present members of the homeschooling community have sown into the work. When I look through our prospectus (see the link at the end of the post), I feel grateful for the time spent to build up the community and the children of the families who participated.

The children's work that my heart is invested in, is a long term project. This year, I've spoken to people in NGOs and local charities behind the scenes to find out the needs on the ground. The work is difficult and it will not get easier. The people who will care for the lost and least need to be skilled in child development, teaching, familial care. Where do I start?
