Description

Jon Beale, Ph.D., is a researcher, coach, writer and educator whose research focuses on how to most effectively promote human flourishing in the workplace and education. In particular, his research and coaching focuses on flow — the state of optimal attention and performance, where we’re completely concentrated on a challenging activity such that we have to stretch a skill to its limit — and how to promote flow at work and in education.

Jon has published peer-reviewed articles on philosophy and education in leading academic journals, book publishers and media outlets, including the New York Times. He is co-editor of four books on philosophy and education, including The Future of Education, forthcoming from Oxford University Press.

Jon has previously held positions as Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford (2021-22), Researcher-in-Residence at Eton College (2019-21) and Fellow in Philosophy at Harvard (2011-13).

Jon co-leads the Human Flourishing Program’s Flourishing Network with Professor Matthew Lee and Dr. Christina Hinton. He co-hosts Flourish FM: a podcast for the good life, sponsored by the Human Flourishing Program and the University of Oxford’s Department of Education. He co-founded the Flow Lab, a free platform where he and his co-founders share invitations to masterclasses and new resources on flow states, performance and well-being, and he is a coach for the Center for Human Potential. The Little U Guest Speaker Series is both a knowledge sharing and career guidance platform that gently allows children and their families to understand different paths available. We link these paths to individuals whose stories reflect the breadth and depth of their decisions, and the sacrifices involved. Come with a desire to learn from the best. In one hour, they will share their life story around the questions below, and then take questions from you.

  • What is your job?
  • Why do you do what you do?
  • How did you get started?
  • How would you advise others?
  • What do they need to do to get there?

Join us monthly from January to April 2026, on the 1st Saturdays of the month.
Do note : Unless our speaker is on the other side of the world, the sessions are usually from 10am-11am.
Each ticket is a zoom link for the upcoming session.

What to Expect Each Session

  1. A 20 mins sharing & 40 mins for Q&A.
We love asking our guest speakers questions. If they wish to share a longer story, they will cap it at 30 mins so that there is ample time to take questions later.
  2. A backstory on their journey to success, or where they are now.
The speakers did not get to where they are without a meaningful struggle. They will be honest about their ups and downs so that we can appreciate the richness of their careers. Life is not linear.
  3. They will speak at a level understandable to 15 year-olds.
Pitching to a 15 yo range would be broad enough to cover a wide demography. We welcome advanced tweens and parents to join the Guest Speaker Series if you are a curious learner!
  4. Slides and some reels are useful to help the audience visualise what they mean.
Sensitive materials will be edited out for the recording, according to the guest speaker’s requirements. If you don’t want to miss out, join the session as a participant.

Get up close and personal with the best people in their industry, and the coolest people we like to meet.
It’s great for networking, internship opportunities.
Ask all your questions about careers before you commit to them.
