Description

Kuik Shiao-yin is the founder and lead consultant of Common Ground Civic Centre & Consultancy. She is a culture change strategist, organisational developer, and social impact consultant with two decades of hard-won leadership experience. She works at the intersection of culture, strategy, and human behaviour — helping leaders close the gap between what they deeply value and how their organisations actually operate day to day.

Her client work spans government agencies, multinational corporations, and non-profits across Singapore, America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. She doesn’t teach theory in isolation — her practice is grounded in the lived experience of co-founding one of Singapore’s pioneering clusters of socially-oriented enterprises, steering it through peak growth and leading it through crisis.

Shiaoyin works with leaders and teams in four ways: diagnosing the gap between desired and actual culture, co-designing change strategies that are contextually grounded, facilitating crucial conversations that move teams forward, and coaching leaders to turn good intentions into lasting behavioural change.

She is the host of two podcasts — Finding Common Ground, exploring how changemakers and bridge builders create impact, and Soul at Work, which takes an honest look at the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful of changing things at work.

Shiao-Yin also served as a two-time Nominated Member of Parliament in Singapore from 2014 to 2018.

The Little U Guest Speaker Series is both a knowledge sharing and career guidance platform that gently allows children and their families to understand different paths available. We link these paths to individuals whose stories reflect the breadth and depth of their decisions, and the sacrifices involved. Come with a desire to learn from the best. In one hour, they will share their life story around the questions below, and then take questions from you.

  • What is your job?
  • Why do you do what you do?
  • How did you get started?
  • How would you advise others?
  • What do they need to do to get there?

Join us monthly from January to April 2026, on the 1st Saturdays of the month.
Do note : Unless our speaker is on the other side of the world, the sessions are usually from 10am-11am.
Each ticket is a zoom link for the upcoming session.

What to Expect Each Session

  1. A 20 mins sharing & 40 mins for Q&A.
We love asking our guest speakers questions. If they wish to share a longer story, they will cap it at 30 mins so that there is ample time to take questions later.
  2. A backstory on their journey to success, or where they are now.
The speakers did not get to where they are without a meaningful struggle. They will be honest about their ups and downs so that we can appreciate the richness of their careers. Life is not linear.
  3. They will speak at a level understandable to 15 year-olds.
Pitching to a 15 yo range would be broad enough to cover a wide demography. We welcome advanced tweens and parents to join the Guest Speaker Series if you are a curious learner!
  4. Slides and some reels are useful to help the audience visualise what they mean.
Sensitive materials will be edited out for the recording, according to the guest speaker’s requirements. If you don’t want to miss out, join the session as a participant.

Get up close and personal with the best people in their industry, and the coolest people we like to meet.
It’s great for networking, internship opportunities.
Ask all your questions about careers before you commit to them.
